I have been professionally designing and making furniture to commission for about thirty years. After an early career in academic publishing I trained in furniture making in Dorset where I set up my first workshop. A few years later I moved back to Oxfordshire and established a larger workshop where, with the help of normally about six craftspeople, over many years I produced a wide range of furniture for private clients, architects, designers, commercial companies and institutions. Work ranged from individual domestic pieces, to large corporate items, to sets of furniture for college study bedrooms.
More recently I have moved back to Dorset, to work on my own or in collaboration with other workshops, concentrating on individual pieces where the opportunities for expressive design and close involvement with the commissioner are often greatest. I strive always for furniture that is distinctive without being wilful.
